The Walking Football Association has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Sports Business Awards 2018 for the ‘Best Sports Governing Body Initiative’.

The WFA will be competing against five other National Governing Bodies for the award, including British Rowing, GolfSixes and Project Rugby.

WFA chief executive Paul Carr is delighted that the organisation’s efforts to develop and promote Walking Football has been recognised. He said: “We are thrilled to be in the running for a highly coveted award at such a prestigious event.

“It is great to see that the hard work put in by everyone connected with the WFA has been acknowledged. Walking football continues to grow at an impressive rate and the WFA is at the forefront, introducing initiatives to spread the word and encourage more people to get involved with our fantastic sport.”

The Sports Business Awards were conceived to celebrate the hard work and achievements of individuals and teams who make sporting success possible. The judging panel is made up of CEOs across all sports alongside individuals whose knowledge, expertise and experience gives them special insight into the challenges and demands of sports business success.

One of the judges, Colin Jackson, said: “It’s so important that businesses get recognition for the time, effort and money they invest into sport. Many of our great champions would not have made it to the top without this commitment.”

The lunchtime awards ceremony is being held at The Brewery in London on Friday, June 1.
