The WFA are pleased to announce that 156 teams have entered this year’s premier and oldest Walking Football tournament, the WFA National Cup, which started in 2014.

This represents a stunning 42% increase on the 2017 tournament entries (110 teams), and confirms the WFA’s pre-eminent position within the sport, as the National Governing Body for Walking Football.

Over 2300 players will be involved in the three age categories:
OVER 50
OVER 60
OVER 65

All regions are well represented and the regional winners will be invited to play in the Grand finals to be held in September.

Paul Carr, Chief Executive of the WFA, stated “I am delighted with this fantastic support from the clubs and the players. We enhanced and re-organised the tournament this year, and it is now in a fairer, more exciting and more professional format.

All the major Walking Football clubs in England and Wales have entered this year, making this by far the largest and most popular dedicated national Walking Football tournament in the world.

The increased interest is also due to the tremendous work done by the strong and committed team of 25 passionate and loyal individuals now working in the WFA, all dedicated to promoting the fastest growing sport in the UK. New tournament organiser Chris Keirl has done an excellent proactive job in liaising with all the clubs.

The holders- Birmingham (over 50s) and Eastleigh (over 60s) will be keen to retain their status as champions in a very strong and competitive field. We expect the Grand finals to be televised either live or in highlights form. “

The draw for the 1st round has been held. WFA rules will be used throughout, along with WFA qualified referees where available.
