WALKING FOOTBALL WORLD CUP POSTPONED

The Walking Football Association has announced that the inaugural Walking Football World Cup, which had been scheduled to take place in Manchester in May, has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Various nations from around the world were due to take part in the tournament, but the decision has now been taken to put it back 12 months.

WFA chief executive Paul Carr said: “Having already advised teams that all Walking Football in England should be postponed at this time, we felt that we had no option other than to postpone the Walking Football World Cup.

“While it is very disappointing, as we were all looking forward to staging a landmark tournament for Walking Football, this decision has been made to safeguard the health and wellbeing of everyone involved, which has to be our priority.

“We are determined to ensure that when the tournament takes place in May of next year, it will be even bigger than we had originally planned with more nations expected to take part.”

Further details regarding the rearranged Walking Football World Cup will be announced in due course.
